Breast Cancer Awareness Month is sponsored by Zeta Tau Alpha & the University Health Center.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 1992, Zeta Tau Alpha adopted The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation as the Fraternity's national philanthropy. At the 1996 International Convention, the Fraternity voted to increase ZTA's support of breast cancer awareness by backing all organizations committed to breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
Nationwide, thousands of Zetas created and distributed more than a quarter of a million information cards and pink ribbons, the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness.
Here at JMU, Zeta Tau Alpha strives to make our philanthropy a top priority. In order to promote breast cancer awareness we will hold benefit concerts, movie nights at Grafton-Stovall, survivor nights, pink MADISON t-shirt sales, and our biggest event - a 5k walk/run during Parent's Weekend (October 8th and 9th). We also participate in distributing waterproof shower cards, which identify how to perform breast self-examinations, the most effective source of prevention. Each year on April 1, Zetas participate in the ZTA "Don't Be A Fool...Do Monthly Breast Self-Examinations" campaign. Through this program, millions of breast self-examination cards have been distributed to women and men across the country. ZTA is also extremely proud to announce that we raised well over $14,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation during BCA week last year and received the "Outstanding Fundraising/Service Program Award" at the Student Organization Services (SOS) Leadership Celebration.
Please support our efforts and join us in the prevention of a deadly disease that claims the lives of numerous women and men each year.
