Mission
SafeRides mission is designated to provide a safer community. SafeRides will provide a safe and reliable service within the Harrisonburg community by providing free rides to intoxicated students and/or to students who are rendered incapable of transportation due to other circumstances. SafeRides members will also work to prevent drunk driving through our efforts to educate and fundraise to help support our mission.

Vision
SafeRides strives to provide the most effective designated driver program possible. We will achieve this vision by combining our unique operations, commitment to safety, focus on the SafeRides values, and commitment to improve our service in order to best serve the students of James Madison University (JMU).

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I make a donation?
We have established a JMU foundation to accept all donations. These donations can be tax deductible. Contact our Financial Director, Andrew Robinson, for more information! JMU Seniors can donate to SafeRides through the Madison Class Challenge.
Who can join?
Any undergraduate JMU student who is at least 18 years old and in good academic standing (2.0 GPA) can be a member.
Does it cost anything to be a member of SafeRides?
Yes, to help fund our budget and enable us to provide the designated driving service, there are dues to become a member of SafeRides. They are $20 a semester/$40 a year.
What is the time commitment for members?
The time commitment is fairly flexible. Members are expected to attend the weekly hour-long meeting on Wednesdays at 7pm. Members are also required to drive or work in the office two to three times a semester, on either Friday or Saturday night. Members will be able to chose their working dates.
Will you have to use your own car?
No, SafeRides rents cars from Enterprise Rent-A-Car each weekend. SafeRides cannot allow students to use their own cars because of insurance liability. |
