Celebrate! at the River: Waters of Faith... Deltas of Change Ecumenical Conference 12/28/06-1/1/07

Alternative Spring Break March 3-9 2007!

LPCM is hosting two ASB trips this year. Guatemala | Florida

Guatemala

The work will likely be light construction, and the trip will include a lot of learning about human rights and globalization issues as well as many relational activities with the people of the city we will work in. We are working with CEDEPCA. This is a great trip; we did it three years ago and had life-changing experiences.

All participants are required to attend the following:

  • four preparation studies/meetings before the trip
  • all fundraising events
  • a commissioning service
  • a workshop on peace and justice issues

Only a few spots are left for this trip! If you are interested, email the student contacts below. A $200 deposit is required to reserve your place, and the balance is due before Christmas break. To ensure your reservation, bring $200 and your registration form on Wednesday, October 25 at 6 pm to worship at Haas House. The trip will surely fill up that night when it opens to other JMU students.

  • Student cost: $400 + time spent fundraising. If fundraising goals not met, student cost could increase slightly.
  • Extra student costs: passport fee, recommended vaccinations, and spending money
  • Contact: Student leaders Allie Glace & Leslie Cavin
  • Click for more info on CEDEPCA
  • Registration form (MS Word | PDF)
  • Make checks payable to “LPCM.” Contact Pastor Kathleen (540.421.5726) to find a time to drop payment and form at Haas House.

Florida

The trip to Immokalee, FL focuses on immigration issues and the work of labor unions among migrant workers. We will live and work in a migrant camp. Not too many other details yet, but the cost is only $100 (fundraising also!) and we will drive to Florida. You will need to attend the following:

  • four study/preparation meetings
  • a commissioning service
  • some fundraising events
  • a workshop on peace and justice issues

Spots are filling fast! Deposit of $50 and completed registration form required by November 29.

For more info and to reserve your spot, contact student leaders Caitlin Boyer and Ian McNeil.
