Community ServiceWhen asked what is the most rewarding aspect of DSP, brothers reply, Community Service. It is our goal to help serve a large, diverse group through our various activities in the Harrisonburg community. During this past year we have sponsored blood drives, participated in adopt-a-highway, and assisted the Mercy House and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Our two largest service activities include the MMB see-saw-a-thon and Race for the Cure. Both involve raising money for the American Cancer Society to promote cancer research. One of our most fun events is the Winter Holiday party for underprivileged kids at Mercy House (with our own Santa Claus in attendance). We also participate in a Halloween party and Bowl for Kids Sake to sponsor Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Our Community Outreach team is beginning to make plans for next year. They are exploring new ways to serve our community while having fun.
