Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi at the Lewis School for Girls. Mary Comfort Leonard, Eva Webb Dodd and Anna Boyd Ellington are the founders of Delta Gamma. Delta Gamma strives to foster high ideals of friendship among college women, promote their educational and cultural interests, create in them a true sense of social responsibility and develop in them the best qualities of character. Delta Gamma was the first fraternity to establish an independent philanthropic Foundation in Ohio in 1951. Delta Gamma was also the first fraternity to establish lectureship speakers on campuses to promote values and ethics. Expanding first to the North and then to the East, Delta Gamma was part of the first intersorority conference meeting in 1891 and later one of the seven charter members of the National Panhellenic Conference in 1901. Today, there are over 80,000 members of Delta Gamma and over 140 chapters across the United States and Canada. Delta Gamma's central office is located in Columbus, Ohio.

Sabrina Bryan is an actress, singer, dancer and one of the members of the Disney Channel musical group Cheetah Girls. (She plays the character Dorinda.) The group is currently traveling to promote their newest movie Cheetah Girls 2. Sabrina also has her own dance/fitness video for girls titled BYOU.
Judge Sarah Tilghman Hughes was the first female federal judge, and the first woman to swear in a U.S. President (Lyndon B. Johnson, on the day of the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963). In 1961 she was appointed to the federal bench by President Kennedy, and in the 1930s she served two terms in the Texas House of Representatives.
Mary Landrieu is a U.S. senator for the state of Louisiana, and immediate past Louisiana State Treasurer.
