Christians On Campus

Agape Christian Fellowship: http://orgs.jmu.edu/agape

Throughout the Bible, God's people have gathered together, as a group, to worship Him.  Many times the Bible records God's presence and power being poured out upon a unified group of believers who came to worship Him.  Today we gather to worship as a body of believers for the same reasons.

-to give God our praises

-to hear from God

-to fellowship with other believers

To give God our praises - Can we do this alone? Yes, but there is power in a group of unified believers.  One reason we meet is to collectively give God our praises and worship for who He is and for the great things He has done in our lives.  It is a response to the love He has poured out to us.  The goal of our praise to Him is for the glory and honor that He deserves.

To hear from God - Our desire is to meet with the God who speaks to us in many ways.  The Holy Spirit may convict our hearts through the time of praise or through a friend who ministers to our needs after the meeting.  God may also speak to us through His word or through the words of the speaker.  This is why we pray that the speaker would be a pure vessel to deliver the message that God has placed on their heart for us to hear.  We need a hunger and thirst for God's truth to pierce our hearts and teach us, encourage us, correct us, and rebuke us.

To fellowship with other believers - As we come together to worship and praise, it gives us a chance to meet with our brothers and sisters.  It is an opportunity for us to share what the Lord has been doing in our lives and the things we have been learning.  We hope that every time we gather together, we would find encouragement, love and joy in the presence of God.

Campus Crusade for Christ:  http://orgs.jmu.edu/crusade

The Organization
Campus Crusade for Christ (ccci.org) is an interdenominational, international organization. When Bill and Vonette Bright first launched Campus Crusade for Christ as a campus ministry in 1951, the underlying concept was to "win the campus today and change the world tomorrow." More than 50 years later, the mission remains the same.

Today, the campus ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ is a network of vibrant, growing movements on 1,096 campuses in the United States and beyond. Proven and diverse outreach strategies expose millions of students to the gospel each year. Over the past five years, more than 37,900 students made a decision to trust Christ.

At JMU
Our heart is that every student at JMU would hear about God's love for them and how they can know Him through a relationship with Jesus. Our leadership structure consists of full-time staff and interns, our Shepherd Team, and the many students who work on teams, which we call our Servant Teams. In addition, we have ninety Small Group Leaders. We'd love to have more help on all of our teams.

Our Goal at Cru:
Construct an environment where non-Christians are comfortable, Jesus is declared, God's Word is taught, and Believers are free to worship our King.

Christian Student Union: http://orgs.jmu.edu/csu

The Christian Student Union at James Madison University (also known as CSU) is a campus ministry affiliated with the Virginia Baptist Mission Board. About two years ago, we changed our name from Baptist Student Union to Christian Student Union to reflect the openness of our organization. While we still remain affiliated with the Baptist faith, we want to emphasize that we are here to serve all JMU students regardless of their faith.

Our Vision Statement:
The Christian Student Union at James Madison University exists as a Christian community, united by faith and love, to serve the campus community by sharing our faith and by providing significant opportunities for spiritual development, fellowship, and service to others.

Purpose for Getting Involved:
College is a time when young adults begin to shape themselves as a person and prepare themselves for "the real world" and independence. Why not take this time to grow spiritually, preparing yourself for relationships, marriage, and life in general after college. Taking the time to seek God and grow spiritually is not merely an investment in your future; it's an investment in your eternity.

Explore Christianity:
Please check out EveryStudent.com to explore spiritual issues. It is a great resource to learn about the basics of Christianity. Ready to place your trust in God? Check out this page on "Knowing God Personally" (from EveryStudent.com). If you would like to talk to someone about placing your faith in God or have any questions related to CSU or the faith foundations our ministry is built on, please feel free to contact our Campus Minister Daphne Almarode either by email at djalmar@ntelos.net or by phone at: (540) 434-6822. Also, please feel free to contact any member of our student leadership team (also known as council) regarding spiritual questions or CSU questions.

InterVarsity: www.jmuiv.com

At its core, InterVarsity is quite simple: God is worthy of praise. Unequaled. Glorious. Central. These things are true of God, yet at JMU, His praise is often absent in the classrooms, the resident halls and organizations. Our desire, as we hope is yours, is to see the name of Jesus magnified and exalted on our campus, in the lives of our lost friends and ultimately around the globe.

InterVarsity is more than an organization. We don’t want to be another program or function for people to attend. We want to build strong disciples of Christ who full-on engage the world with the life, message and worth of Jesus Christ. Sure we have small group Bible studies, Large Group gatherings, prayer meetings, conferences, mission trips and so on. But these are a means and not an end.

It is our conviction that JMU doesn’t need more Christian meetings, clever ideas, or catchy programs. Our campus needs God. God is seen clearly in the lives of His people. God heard clearly in the faithful proclamation of his gospel. God experienced clearly through the power of His Spirit in worship and love.
