Breast Cancer Awareness
With the dedication to our philanthropy, our house has raised $2,700 this past
October(2007)
for the Susan G. Koman Foundation.

* We also received the "President's Service Award--Silver" from the U.S.
Government for
completing more than 500 hours of community service in the year of 2007
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer amongst women. It is also the
leading
cause of cancer death
amongst women aged 40-59, and second only to lung cancer amongst
women of other
ages. All this said, when
detected early and
treated, the 5-year survival rate
is 80%. Women, especially
young women, are often too unaware of
the simple measures they
can take to detect breast cancer. Although breast
cancer can develop in all women - and in
men,
as well - certain individuals are at higher risk than others. It is
especially important to spread
awareness of this
cancer and any preventative actions that can be taken to such individuals.
As
such, Breast Cancer Awareness has
became the National Philanthropy of alpha Kappa Delta
Phi. Each year, every
chapter sponsors events to raise money
for the Susan G. Komen
Foundation, especially
during October, which is Breast
Cancer Awareness Month.
Here at the
James Madison University, our sisters sponsor an annual Breast Cancer Awareness
Week on campus, where we set up
a booth to hand out information about breast cancer awareness,
and sell various
items such as pins to support Susan
G. Comen Breast Cancer Foundation. Please
look out for us during the month of
October and show your support for
Breast Cancer Awareness!
